Today, May 14th, 2020, I was happy to recognize Child and Youth in Care Day across Ontario along with my colleague Minister Lecce. It is a day to recognize and support children and youth who are in care or formerly in care and reaffirm our commitment to help them succeed in all they do.
- Our vision is for an Ontario where every child and youth who is in care, or who is receiving services from a children’s aid society, has the supports they need to succeed. Some of our recent support includes:
- Being the first province nation-wide to issue a moratorium on children aging out of the child welfare system to ensure Children’s Aid Societies continue to provide services to children who may age out during this pandemic;
- Providing up to $1.5 million in funding to the Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada’s COVID-19 Youth Support Fund, which helps former youth in care between the ages of 18 and 29 navigate challenges related to the COVID-19 outbreak, especially those who do not qualify, or are waiting for, other government supports.
