Targeted COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Screening to Keep Students Safe

October 5/21, the government announced the launch of a COVID-19 rapid antigen screening program available through participating public health units where risk of transmission is high to help keep schools and licensed child care settings open and safe for children and students. The program is predicated on updated advice from the Chief Medical Officer of Health, which the government is following to increase access to voluntary, rapid asymptomatic testing to help identify and contain cases in select schools and child care settings.

The program will be available to all public health units to offer rapid antigen tests to public and private schools and licensed child care settings in their communities.

The Ministry of Education will continue to work with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, local public health units and Ontario Health to assess key indicators, such as vaccination rates and community transmission, to inform and update provincial guidance for schools and child care as needed.
