Premier Ford and Minister Lecce announced our government’s plan for the safe reopening of school for students, staff and school communities this September.
The government has unveiled a plan that prioritizes student health and safety, provides school boards with unprecedented resources and flexibility to implement this plan, and accommodates regional differences in public health dynamics.
All publicly-funded elementary schools will be reopening province-wide, five days a week.
Most secondary schools will start the school year in an adapted model of part-time attendance. Class cohorts of up to 15 students will alternate between attending in-person and on line, with at least half of the time in-class. Secondary schools with lower risk will reopen with a normal daily schedule, five days a week.
As always, our government respects parents’ choice and therefore parents will have the choice of whether or not their child will attend school in-person. Meanwhile, school boards will ensure remote learning is available for all students.
To support the reopening of schools in September, the government is investing over $300 million in targeted, immediate, and evidence-informed investments to maximize the safety and well-being of Ontario’s 2 million students.
