Minister Lecce announced that for the third straight year, public education spending will increase under Premier Ford’s leadership. Under our plan unveiled May 4/21, $2B more is being invested for the 2021-2022 school year, including:
- $1.6 billion in COVID-19 resources to protect schools;
- $85.5 million investment in Ontario’s Learning Recovery Plan
- $561 million increase in the Grants for Student Needs (GSN), rising to $25.6 billion.
Ontario’s per-student amount is rising to an estimated $12,686, an increase from 2020-21 levels and the highest ever per-student amount. On top of our historic investment in public education, Ontario alone (without federal support) is renewing the $1.6 billion in COVID funding to support schools with everything from the hiring of staff to additional resources for remote learning technology to math tutoring expansion to support for student mental health.
