Ontario is expanding workplace inspections to farming operations to help keep farm workers safe during COVID-19.
Inspectors are now visiting farming operations across the province, focusing on locations that employ temporary foreign workers to ensure that health and safety laws are followed and that measures are in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Ontario is expected to welcome thousands of foreign agricultural workers, mostly from Mexico and the Caribbean, under the federally administered Temporary Foreign Worker Programs this growing season.
The Ontario and federal governments are working together with local public health units to deliver education, support and compliance assistance to agricultural businesses and address workplace risks. This includes providing agricultural employers with resources, best practices and information to help keep workers safe and healthy, and businesses in operation during COVID-19 and enforcing that those rules are followed.
