Child Care for Frontline Workers

Minister Lecce and Minister Elliott announced that the Government is ensuring frontline health care workers – doctors, nurses and paramedics, firefighters, police, and correctional officers – will be able to access safe, local emergency child care. To support front line workers, the Government announced a plan to open some child care centres by exempting those targeted locations near hospitals and critical infrastructure from the Emergency order.

The child care centres will be required to follow existing health and safety requirements, including advice from Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health and have a plan in place to protect staff and youth from COVID-19.  This initiative is being made in partnership with officials from municipalities, service system managers, and First Nations operators.
